Inspirée de la dynamique des liquides ferromagnétiques, cette œuvre pour 12 interprètes réconcilie avec éclat les influences divergentes de l’univers de Victor Quijada : l’âge d’or du hip-hop et l’univers de la danse de scène classique et contemporaine.
With XXVII , Quijada explores the scaling of ideas and sensations; the multiplication of rhythmic idiosyncrasies; and the replicating of street culture gesticulations and mannerisms through sequences of quick-fire action / reaction chains & loops. The result is a clever and spectacular navigation through the phobias and aversions of repeating oneself, uncovering hidden dimensions of paths previously traveled. Twelve performers push the boundaries of athleticism and physicality by itransposing the polyrhythmic syncopations of individual movement, onto a dynamic corps de ballet. Fluid dynamics and the peculiar behaviors of viscous and ferromagnetic fluids infuse the movements of the team of exceptional performers to translate these observations & investigations into exhilarating physical sequences.
Celebrating the company's 25th anniversary, XXVII builds upon RUBBERBAND's signature blend of contemporary and street dance, and the continuous questioning of the theatrical event. Fixating on the audiences’ expectations and the parameters of the 4th wall, XXVII aims to allow theatrical conventions to blur and leak past the proscenium threshold.
