Cas Public
9 can be discovered by all generations, pushing back the boundaries of silence so that difference becomes silent and the body becomes language.
Since its beginnings, Cas Public has been recognized, among many things, for its physical and eloquent dance. What is less known is that over the years, the company has welcomed several dancers considered atypical, either by their training, their background or a physical singularity. Thus, for more than a decade, Cai Glover worked within the company. Cai's particularity is that he is hard of hearing, without the support of his cochlear implant, he is deaf. From this handicap that he overcame to become a professional dancer and the professional and personal encounter that resulted from it, the choreographer Hélène Blackburn took the challenge of making it the starting point for the creation of 9 . A sort of large laboratory on perception, the work questions our senses. Perceive, experience, understand. It is our senses that allow us to grasp the world around us. Like a window open to the other, a sine qua non condition for understanding, acceptance and inclusion. Thus, several questions arise... How can we embrace all the excess and grandeur of one of the greatest masterpieces of the classical repertoire, the 9th Symphony, knowing that Beethoven's hearing was lacking? Why do humans tend to attribute emotions to essentially inanimate objects? Is it possible to dance without seeing? 9 embodies this challenge through a daring journey of sensation. In co-production with the Kopergietery, the work can be discovered by all generations, pushing back the boundaries of silence so that difference becomes silent and the body becomes language.
