frequently asked questions

  • WHAT DOES CAPAS • DANCE LABEL DO?
CAPAS represents, produces, promotes and supports professional dance in order to promote its excellence both in Quebec and internationally. Like record labels, CAPAS • Dance Label identifies and supports talents and creators to develop and export their works, while offering services for the field's institutions. Concretely, the label represents the interests of the companies that it defends with local and national presenters, offers them administrative support, finds their financing to produce and promote their creations, organizes the logistics surrounding their tours and brings them together around artistic projects which democratize dance. At the same time, the label supports institutions in the sector regarding planning and implementation of marketing and administrative strategies to facilitate their processes. CAPAS remains flexible and on the lookout for social and cultural change in order to adapt its offer and its projects according to the real needs of its partners.
  • WHAT ARTISTS CAN BE REPRESENTED BY THE CAPAS • SHOWS DIVISION?
The label supports talents who align with its artistic vision: artworks with techniques that are as precise as they are innovative. Our agents are looking for shows that are in tune with their own baggage, affinities and perceptions: contemporary ballet. CAPAS has thus developed specific requirements in terms of technique, virtuosity and body commitment. In the classical dance milieu, emotion shines through when the technique is exceptional, of a perfection that arouses wonder. Conversely, contemporary dance relies on emotion to dictate technique, focusing on a raw feeling that makes the body more expressive and true. At the confluence of these two approaches, the CAPAS • Shows division is interested in companies that deploy a sophisticated gesture and visceral emotion as a whole where the form and the content are equally refined.
  • WHY CAPAS PRODUCES SHOWS?
In addition to defending talents, the CAPAS • shows division produces its own projects whose objective is to democratize dance by bringing it closer to audiences. Whether by joining them physically during the pandemic (La question des fleurs), by combining their interest in Révolution with contemporary dance (Midnight Somewhere) or by going to meet tourists (NIEBO HOTEL), the works of CAPAS bring together virtuosity and accessibility. These creations meet the needs of presenters who wish to defend dance to their audiences, the aspirations of artists who want to develop their public's interest and spectators who want a way inside the moving world of Quebec dance.
  • WHAT ARE THE SERVICES OFFERED BY THE CAPAS • SERVICES DIVISION?
MARKETING The CAPAS • Services division implements various communication and strategic solutions to equip the dance sector in order to promote their projects: visual identity, brand image, website, audits, marketing strategies, etc. Understanding the dance sector's realities while learning from other industries, CAPAS deploys its expertise to help institutions create audience loyalty. • WHAT SERVICES OFFERED SPECIFICALLY TO QUEBEC PROGRAMMERS?

Thus, the label allows local spectators to travel without leaving their city, and to discover the best of world contemporary dance in order to awaken their interest in the discipline.
