MAGNIFICAT

Compagnie Marie Chouinard

With MAGNIFICAT, performed by the 12 performers of her company, Marie Chouinard explores the sacred work of Bach.

Having already created on great scores such as Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring , Chopin's 24 Preludes , or Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, choreographer Marie Chouinard here reconnects with Jean-Sébastien Bach, which inspired bODY rEMIX/les vARIATIONS gOLDBERG .

With MAGNIFICAT, danced by the 12 performers of her company, she explores the sacred work of Bach, sung in Latin by a choir, five vocal soloists and an orchestra. Imbued with divine essence, this piece gives voice to the Virgin, whose words exult with power and happiness. Newly pregnant, the immaculate Mother addresses us with a vision of the world freed from its constraints, in a sublime plenitude.

Marie Chouinard treats the arias of MAGNIFICAT as noble entities, interconnected in a shared space-time, alternating between large group movements, trios, duets and solos, for a total of 35 minutes of pure gracefulness. The lights and costumes, also created by the choreographer, reinforce this sacred atmosphere.
