VANISHING MÉLODIES – Music by Patrick Watson

Ballets Jazz Montreal

VANISHING MÉLODIES is rooted in the music of Montreal singer-songwriter Patrick Watson, whose evocative poetry has been acclaimed on stages the world over.

Immersed in a dreamlike world often found in Watson's music, the artists are drawn into the current of life and suspended in a state of transition. It is in this rich yet complex state - at the heart of human experience - that paradoxes lie and seeds of self-discovery grow. They must leave something behind, or shed a part of themselves, to make way for something new.

Using a bus shelter as a bewitching refuge, the performers drift fluidly between arrivals and departures. This perpetual state of movement, impermanence and transition keeps the performers searching for their own answers. Floating. Unsure of how the journey will end, but confident that by riding the wave, they'll arrive at the right destination. At peace with the uncertainty of a path that vanishes like smoke.

Tinged with lyricism and raw emotion, VANISHING MÉLODIES bears witness to the remarkable choreographic language of Juliano Nunes (Germany) and Anne Plamondon (Canada), and the imaginative direction of Eric Jean. In this work of twenty musical pieces, the three artists interweave their talents to create a work in perfect synergy with Watson's music: human, vulnerable and tender.
