XXVII
RUBBERBAND
Inspired by the dynamics of ferromagnetic liquids, this work for twelve performers brilliantly reconciles the divergent influences of Victor Quijada's universe: the golden age of hip-hop and the world of classical and contemporary stage dance.

With XXVII, Victor Quijada continues his ongoing exploration of the intersection between street and contemporary dance through a large-scale work performed by twelve dancers. Drawing on the gestures, tics, and dynamics of urban culture, he crafts a high-voltage physical score woven from rapid-fire action and reaction. This new creation extends RUBBERBAND’s singular choreographic approach — a language where precision, risk, and raw energy merge into a rhythmic, fluid, and organically constructed ensemble. Still rooted in the diverse influences that shaped his artistic path — from hip-hop to stage performance and ballet — Quijada delivers a powerful piece that combines collective rigor with the freedom of improvisation.
XXVII offers an immersive stage experience that challenges conventional theatrical frameworks and reimagines the relationship between performers and audience. Inspired by fluid dynamics — especially the behaviors of viscous and magnetic liquids — the choreographer creates a series of choreographic tableaux in which movement becomes a metaphor for living matter: dense, unstable, unpredictable. This tension between gravity and resistance, control and surrender, gives rise to a visceral, visually striking work where movement becomes both a site of experimentation and a reflection of a world in constant transformation.
