CAPAS will be representing the show In My Body by Crazy Smooth, the award-winning choreographer, artistic director and founder of Bboyizm dance company.
In My Body is Crazy Smooth’s latest work and Bboyizm’s most ambitious project to date. At its core, Smooth explores the effects of ageing on the street dancer and how this inevitable force affects the dancer’s entire being – body, mind and spirit. It is said that the bravest thing a dancer can do is grow old - for a b-boy/b-girl, the experience is approaching heroic.
Crazy Smooth has taken choreographic inspirations from the interactions of the cast – a diverse group of nine of Canada’s top street dancers spanning three generations. In Smooth’s own words, the cast is in fact the character of this piece.
The label will have the privilege of representing the interests of this work on the other side of the ocean. In My Body will electrify UK audiences at London's Southbank Centre this summer for its European premiere. The Canadian co-production (Montreal, Banff, Edmonton, Whitehorse, Toronto) that won over Montrealers at FTA 2023 will then travel to other cities on the Old Continent to share its reflections on all aspects of ageing for a street dancer.
